I have been trying to distill my view on design down to as few characters as possible. These three words are it. The function of anything well designed eventually finds a form. A plant is colourful to attract bees. A great app interface is easy for any human to use instantly. I have always despised the terms UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface). First of all, no one outside the field knows what they mean. So, ironically, they have bad “ooh-ex“. Secondly, it divides the design process up across an arbitrary line that makes no sense to me or any great designer I know. It serves no purpose. Designers bring functionality into a format that people can use. Designers form functions. Design Forms Function. Designing anything—from a can opener to a crypto wallet—is about starting with the desired functionality and *finding* the form it should take. The functionality is out there in the universe. It is now trying to find a form to emerge. Designers are conduits for that process. Designers ensure Function Finds Form.
