What do we all think about #hashtags in social media? honest opinions, and from the standpoint that they don't help algos anymore these days (no algo or di
Comments
- I've seen #hashtags play a key role in connecting people with specific interests, events, or movements. They may not be algorithmic champs anymore, but they helped a collection of mine gain traction & can be useful when applied with intention! (With that being said, if we come up with something cool they can be replaced haha)
- I think hashtags are closer to memes in dialog now. For instance #adulting
But beyond that, I think they represent easy ways to filter content (thinking instagram style here) and potentially forcing content to be filtered in a category.
In order to get rid of hashtags, I think there needs to be a high level of trust that the algo will get the sorting right.
Hashtags can also be used to hide content.
- I think that #hashtags were a way to be relevant and get discovered in 2010s.
A sort of social-media-SEO.
Today the best way to be relevant is to connect with your community.
In a AI powered world the best way to get discovered is to be human.
- Hashtags not much, but $Dollar tags give high certainty to your algo. We use it for token sentiment analysis
- They still help in searching.
The more popular hashtags you have, the more visible to other users.
I still use Hashtags on Tiktok, Instagram or Twitter to reach more people and it still works depsite hashtags aren't the most important factor.
- #hashtagshavebecomepartofinternetculture #ergohashtagsareuseful #simples !!
- #footlens lovely hashtag
- in general not sure, wouldn't miss hashtags probably ;-)
for #lens ;-) using hashtags is afaik the only feature to increase the chance of finding posts or comments in the future cross lens apps. -> I'm using #bookmarkAlice and especially #bookmarkAlense quite frequently
- #socialsummer
- Very useful on Twitter where I often have a specific goal in kind as it is more an “information-oriented” social network imo, but never used on Instagram, Facebook etc where I’m just there to scroll through the feed (ie more entertainment purpose)
- I like them because they help with search
- They seem to be needed to search for the information we want, and I sometimes even put them in a post, but the joke is that I myself never search through them. I'm just now thinking about it. 🤣
- I like them for discovery of content, although they are not a perfect system they do help with organziation
- They're still useful for searching/finding stuff, right?
- kinda pointless since you can just search for words in the post. maybe if the backend added them invisibly for some kind of grouping for search or discoverabillity
- I viewed hashtags more as an expression to summarize the point or give a message based on the write up that preceded it. Not so much as an algo thing. But I'm never really with the times, so can't say for sure 😁
- I am also mostly using them for bookmarks
- i think its essential, i usually use hashtag feature on Twitter for many purposes including work and entertainment
- Hashtags are relevant when you'd like categorize your content or wanna find posts in a specific topic. On the other hand, hashtaging every is unnecesary.
- Only used them during first years of instagram (the infamous #finnishboy szn)
Never use them on twitter on own posts but I do check the trending topics daily.
> does not mean that trending topics need to or should be determined by hashtag usage though as indeed never use them myself
#cryptosoupgroup is the only exception that I’ve used twice! 🍜
- They help you find the information you need 😊
- I use hashtags to find things I'm looking for.
- Hsshtags don't matter if the search feature is strong
- They’re pretty useful for streamlining contents towards your targeted audience
- I see them as a trends every trend has a hashtag lol
- People are used to hashtags for promoting their content, get more visibility or push up a topic. There are not too many ways for relatively unpopular profiles to attract new views, so hashtags should not be neglected in Lens also.
That's exactly what we cover in the first release of https://wazzup.live
- #hashtags useful in social
- I think #hashtags are useful when searching for posts.
- I think that #hashtags were a way to be relevant and get discovered in 2010s.
- Hashtags were first introduced to help algorithms find stuff easier and make it more popular, but now there's so much stuff online that hashtags don't work as well as they used to.
- Hashtags are fun though..good old days..some still rely on them 😁
- #HashTag is really useful to reach a vast community. Hashtag help small creators viral in the space
- In terms of usage habits, I prefer to use #hashtags to tag key content to convey core information, to make it easier for others to get the focus of the content faster and to make it easier to be discovered. If we want to change this social content presentation habit, do we have other alternatives to achieve the same effect?
- are there any trending topics with #hashtags for now?
- Hashtags are used to quantify trending and commonality information, but would be unnecessary if the same could be parsed from the text posted.
- #hashtags is important for us to capture the information we search for. We can simple do a few test searches with hashtags or without hashtags, then we can see the difference. Searches with hashtags will bring us more search results and more likely will find the information we look for.
- i like hashtag, it is useful with me
- hashtags play key role. and it is easy to identify
- They're useful and i will use #hashtags
- #hashtags was useful for creator to publish content in multiple channel. Community for a subject seems like a better way to categorize in my opinion.
- Hashtags are ok.. But the most important future is "edit".
- Hashtag helps to make posts or contents get to the right persons and also to drive traffic
- When you can search by typing the word itself, I don't see a point using hashtags. I think it has lost its purpose.
- I do not think this is a good development direction.
We need to first consider the cost of gas problems, if this problem does not been solved how to massively expand more social users into our ecosystem!
Dont waste time on this kind of #Hashtags "Problems", no problem for a hashtag!
- I always use and search based on #Hashtags on Twitter or Instagram. that's why for me it is important to connect with specific interests, events, and topics.
- $ = helpful
# = unhelpful
would love to hear from people that use hashtags for search functionality though
- I love hashtags. I would also love it if we can tag friends on here
- once in a while I like to tap other people hashtags, just want to see what that post all about
- I think it wasn't working since the beginning :D personally, I use hashtags to show something is more important or it's relative to the subject...
- I think we should come up with a novel approach. We dont need to bring everything in web2 as it is. Nowadays hashtags are not helping anymore as people use irrelavent hashtags with posts just to get the reach
