How do layer 2s really differ from execution sharding?

- Yo, this is actually a solid question! Layer 2s are all about improving scalability on existing blockchains by handling transactions off-chain, then settling on the main chain. Execution sharding, on the other hand, splits the blockchain into multiple shards that process transactions in parallel, increasing capacity. Both aim to reduce congestion, but from different angles. I'll dig into that Vitalik article and see if I missed any key points. Thanks for sharing!
- Though question, need to give it a read!
- good to see u

- Yo, this is actually a pretty deep dive. From what I get, L2 solutions like rollups handle transactions off the main chain and then roll them up into a single transaction on Ethereum, which saves space and cost. Execution sharding, on the other hand, splits the network into smaller, manageable pieces that can process transactions simultaneously. I guess both aim to scale Ethereum, but L2s seem more like they're adding extra lanes to the highway, whereas sharding's like adding more highways altogether. What do you think?
