how do you all feel about it? i guess there should be the right balance; everything shouldn’t be collectible, only rare pieces you feel are important shoul

- I agree , this is why I’ve been cautious with my content so far on this app. I don’t wana just siphon from the community. I want my futuy mints to follow some value model.
But I am an artist who does need a new laptop 💻 😅😤 lol . Balance
- People are excited, people are experimenting. imo, it's something natural that is happening right now, something that may cool down as time passes
imo, the problem is not that everything is collectible, but rather that more people are starting to beg to have their posts collected. This is something that I don't like, as I feel it harms them a lot
I want each post to be collectible. I want artists to create more, to sell more, to genuinely be part of the creation of the future that we are building. But when I see people begging to have their posts collected, it hurts me, as I understand that money is the main driver and not the art or other healthier things
But it will cool down for sure. They will understand how to properly navigate it
I have nothing against having everything as a collectible. All my posts are collectibles, and still, we engage in conversations. I don't care whether people collect my thoughts or not; it's just an extra if they resonate with what I am saying. But the collectible aspect doesn't stop the conversation that I aim to start or have
I am happy to support as many as possible, and whether it is good or bad, I will keep encouraging creators to set their posts as collectibles, especially the new ones. In this way, they can genuinely understand the benefits of what we have here, of how things could be done in the future, and hopefully, they will get their art collected. I don't want them to get discouraged and leave what, imo, is what can save them in terms of feeling valued and cherished
Hope it makes sense🌹
- I still think we don’t know what collects are. They got liquidity now, thanks to $BONSAI, and everyone who follows @lens/bonsai has of course some motivation to make posts collectible - for $BONSAI. And collect.
Personally I stick with the assumption that collects don’t have any financial value. I change my mind as soon as we see the first sale of size on any secondary market.
But collecting content pushs the post into the timeline of followers - generates visibility.
+ supports artists / content creators
+ might lead to more $BONSAI ;-)
tbh I don’t see any downside of making posts collectible 🤷♀️
- The only issue is because you can see the price of the collect on orb. If you go in hey it doesn’t tell you until you click collect if I’m not mistaken. But that’s not even an issue. Like I’ve said, enjoying art doesn’t mean you have to collect that piece you can still like it and repost it. But being upset that artist in web3 have a frictionless way to give their art a free and monetized platform is kind of a slap in the face.
I mean buttrfly doesn’t have the price showing so if that’s the problem there are again apps that have it less viable .
- This is the perfect job for different algos and filters
- I could see if maybe minting was required to view the content. But other than that I think ppl should be allowed to mint whatever they want
- It’s irrational to complain that just because you don’t want to participate, no one else should be allowed to.
- People will have different opinions and preferences. Orb or Lens can’t please everybody. So my recommendation is to: LET THE USER BE IN CONTROL of what they see here: HAVING A FILTER in place.
E.g.
🔮FILTER POSTS / USERS they see, not automatically block users, of course. If there is a “voice they don’t want to hear”, then just click mute or hide that user or something. They can unmute anytime.
🔮FILTER Posts according to COLLECTIBLES or not (but I think we have this feature already but not obvious?)
🔮SLICE OF LIFE CLUB for those who would like to see more daily lives posts?
🔮I guess consider HIDING THE PRICE of the post and only show an ICON TO COLLECT. If it’s collectible then the price will show. This requires more work to do, but just an idea. If filter collectibles works, then no need to hide price. This is what makes lens different to other socials and shouldn’t really be hidden imo.
Just sharing my thoughts, not necessarily trying to say implement all this. Have a good day, frens ☺️🌱🪴🌷
- I get that. I think all of the so-far unforeseen artists are excited about the prospects here. But I think it will eventually balance out to where people are going to only start posting mint-worthy items that they have spent time on.
- Everything should be collectable. It’s proof of early support or that you were there for a rare fleeting moment when a cultural movement kicked off. It has potential that is undiscovered. We are the explorers. Web3 Genie is out of the bottle baby. Internet of ownership 😎
- I know for myself it’s finding balance. I have a backlog of things I want to share now that I have a place to share them so I know it might look like a Gamma Rainbow Burst on the feed 😆 and there are pieces I am actively encoding, working on I want to drop to my Lens frens.
And there’s many others like me so it’s probably gonna be poppin for a minute until everybody is settled in place. The thing for me though is that I want to get to know everybody and not just drop my pieces to drop them. It’ll all work out 🤗
- I believe that the collectible quality is more given by the audience than the post itself. A post that may be collectible could be about something no one likes, and never be collected, while a non-collectible post could spark so much interest in people that later the author realizes it and reposts it with the collectible quality. However, there's also the middle ground, which I consider would be making the post collectible but free.
On the other hand, I do like the idea of sharing daily life. After all, when I first heard about Lens, they told me it was a "social network," and social networks are for that. Maybe they should create a club just for daily and personal content.
- I think we’re seeing an abundance of collectibles right now because folks are excited and experimenting. I imagine the noise will die down a bit.
Orb team may want to think about filters, preferences and different modes of use to help strike a balance…
- I don’t see a problem with anything range of collects. Free, cheap, expensive. All are welcome. I think there’s opportunity to filter each of these levels.
- Quality art or art with messages are good to collect 💕
- i treat free collects like bookmarks on the blockchain and paid ones as that shinny dollar app on play/app store. Ppl are excited let ppl experience for most this type of techy stuff , digital currency is a complety new stuff. maybe a filter system might work where user can select what they want to see and what they dont want to
such as a topic or post with/without collects or if they want collect filter by free/paid
- It’s worth putting a price on your work. Even if it means meeting the market at a reasonable one. 🫡
- Permissionless tipping fixes this
