What do you think art is?

- This is not a fixed definition, but I’ll use it here for the purpose of this discussion. I think that art is a form of expression that is presented as art within context that receives that proposal as art. An illustration may be a piece of art once it is presented by the illustrator as art inside a gallery (or a group of people) that accept that work as art. However, an illustration that is presented in the label of a product may not be presented as art, and might not be perceived by those who see it as art. That is why I think that it all depends on the context. It also makes me think about a scenario where AI makes an illustration (which was prompted by a human) and is presented by a human into an art gallery, and the gallery accepts it as work of art. Is that piece of art made by a human using AI technology, or is an illustration (a piece of art) made by AI but taken into an art setting by a human? Who is the artist? What is the art piece? The illustration itself or the inclusion of AI illustrations in an art gallery?
I’m not trying to discredit the irruption that AI has caused in the art world, but I do think that it is quite a complex discussion that will eventually translate into other spheres of human creation, including literature, academia, science, etc. And I find it fascinating.
Its amazing to discuss about this debate on Lens 💜
