Post by @ryanfox • Hey
These Follower numbers have been -really- bothering me lately. Of course I’m truly appreciative of every real person who has decided to follow me, but it’s

- And for what it’s worth, I think it’s both possible and more healthy to show engagement metrics without showing money.
- ALSO very curious on how many people are viewing my content and posts. i actually have no idea if its 5, 50, 500 5k or 50k? can use likes as a metric but no idea how many lurkers there are
- would love data on bots- feels like theres many bots based on strange comments on my posts, and instant collects. not sure what the solution is but would like to know how many people are real.
- I have the same feeling
- Fr I’m really curious too!
- Good one! I like the idea of Patrons over followers. Or at least an attempt where Patrons are visible BEFORE one comes across the follower count. The creators/influencers and users would greatly benefit from Lens apps which give a better representation of supporters/patrons.
In LensTube's case, as @chriscomrie.lens mentioned - we need more metrics, currently, IMO, 'likes' alone is not enough feedback, it needs reference metrics to make more sense of it, especially when there are so many bots.

- 💯 number followers are (on web3 as well) a vanity metric. Like number post views.
- Totally agree! I notice I’ve been getting batches of followers, they seem to come all at once but never really engage. Gonna start DMing people who follow to try and work out who is real.
Love these other metrics!
- Super follow with a low cost would conceivably be one way to instantly combat bot/farmer follows. I also get a lot of follows from accounts that don’t even have a handle. I think their trying to farm and potential future airdrops.
Love that idea for “friends vs strangers.” I wonder if this metric could be applied to someone who has commented on your post AND you have either liked their comment or even replied. This would show they didn’t just drop a gm, but said something of interest or value.
- Yes, the people I'm following back is likely more accurate metric of engagement. I try to follow genuine people with good content. Although I'm sure I've missed following back some peeps if we haven't engaged.
Great ideas here.
- would also prefer to see folks that interact beyond certain threshold with my content. Collects are perfect because you will see who are supporting you and also mirror stats to see who are the followers that amplify your content
- How can I see those statistics on the Orb app?
- I don't really have an opinion on those follower numbers. actually, I think there are fewer bots than you might guess.
there are quite a lot of people who are in it for economical reasons, like speculating on airdrops. they don't speak no or little English and simply simulate engagement by one word comments.
- Valid point
- well i have learnt to aceept that bots are part of our little game ehh
- But this is not true.
- You're right, I prefer real followers too, but look at it through it bright side and give thanks to the people and bots that are following you because you can participate and get the rewards of those posts that giveaway some coins for just like and mirror. @nader.lens just made a post with 1 WMATIC as reward to those who mirror his post, but, one requirement is you need to have 30 followers 😅. I didn't qualify 😌
- congrat!
- Others are poor because, while they feel that there is a way out, they are too intellectually
