- Out of curiosity, how would Ads work on Lens?
- 100%. Ads done right on Lens could flow rewards back to the users and essentially be an opt-in form of cash back of sorts. Users would keep 100% of their own data (bring the algo to the data which isn’t stored anywhere so owner only has access). So it would be completely optional and benefit everyone involved and work super well imo. I actually sketched the idea out in detail and was thinking of starting a business around it but I’ve since moved on to a different project/idea 😅
- Peer to peer paid ads @wav3s.lens >>>>> web2
- agree, basically "everyone" is promoting sth on lens already. Ideas (#L2 ;-)) , profiles, art (already paid - mirror collect fee share), ...
not sure though how disclaimers should look like if the money flow is not obvious.
- I don't mind ads at all. It's when there's too many of them that it just becomes annoying and there is wayyyy too much all over the internet. Obviously why that is gets into another discussion, but yeah lol
- Honestly, I don't think ads are a bad business model, it's just that the current ads model on the internet is broken. A well-designed amplification network can actually help users learn and discover new ideas while rewarding those who've got the art of amplification down. It's all about being in control of our audience relationships and choosing what we serve and share. And you know what? No innovation that builds better amplification networks on Lens can be stopped since Lens is an open protocol. So, it's totally up to us users and integrators to choose what we serve 🌿
- Great point! I completely agree that ads can be a successful biz model when implemented properly. It's important to remember that the user experience should always be at the forefront, and a well-designed amplification network can actually enhance that experience by introducing users to new and relevant ideas. The power of choice and control is key, as well in-built reward mechanisms, and I'm excited to see how innovative amplification networks on Lens can continue to evolve and empower users, creators, and integrators. 🚀🌿
- I know that @drdan.lens is building a really cool project in this space :)
- And it's totally up to us to design the ads sector landscape in decentralized social.
We are making the future here and now!
- Yes, depends on what types of ads you receive, but make sure it is not overflow
- Next level of personalized adds ? Like, I am okay to receive adds from the brands or artists I want ?
- Yeah, wish it was quicker and easier
- Ads should be channelised properly. That is the thing.
- Normally people don't hate ads, they hate only irrelevant ones. And more love will come as soon as users start sharing the ad profits with platforms.
- nice idea tnx ser
- Current ad model has two major flows: security and privacy breach for targeted audience/users & blanket filter to focus on users data for ads. other issues are algorithms are targeting users based on their belief and biases , hence constantly spamming those ads and users feel like they being surveilled or spammed. lack of more informative and substantive info over click baits, engagement farming is also major fall back.
this is why subscription based models works great. ask users to pay for the service they want and u have both efficiently managed. privacy and user data management also efficiently managed as you don't handover data to third party for managing and targeting ads.this will also eliminate major issue of spams and bots.
Lens can definitely innovate subscription based model , along with premium add on features on platform. also content creator can directly partner with brands or promotional platforms, where lens can be only host platform with no middle management fees with open source code. Scaling lens network beyond current capacity for wider population and keeping network safe, economical viable will be not be much challenge as most demographics (Young generation) are tired of centralized networks with no sense of respect to user privacy and sense of ownership.
Lens as a network effect will thrive as it has potential to value creation, privacy, sense of ownership, open source along with ideas like subscription based model to make it economical viable and scale bigger.
- Good idea for appropriate Ads in Lens
- no more ads on lens but rewards ads on lens power by @wav3s.lens
- I'm sure you mean something like this, advertisement drawn by fashion illustrator René Grua for Crescendoe gloves。
- I agree with you. Ads can be organically combined with lens if designed well and used effctively. 🌿
- I agree with you. Ads can be organically combined with lens if designed well and used effctively.
- The advertising business model on lens is completely different. Creators and users will get most of the advertising budget, while lens may only get a small part. But web2 social is the other way around.
- like the idea, but at some point i think we will need ads (maybe in other direction) on lens
- Soon Lens ads
- I believe until spam prevention mechanism is deployed protocol-wide, we'll see an incentive or catalyst for all lens app to have some policies for such ads issues we're discussing
- will lens starts accepting ads soon ?
- Lens is an open protocol. Its up to the users and integrators to choose what to serve 🌿
- agree, basically "everyone" is promoting sth on lens already. Ideas (#L2 ;-)) , profiles, art (already paid - mirror collect fee share), ...
- Its up to the users and integrators to choose what to serve 🌿 #lens
- Insightful take! Balancing monetization with meaningful content & user privacy is crucial. Lens is definitely a step forward 🌿
- I have every reason the amplification network will unleash its full potential as in web3 the data is not controlled by a centralized authority, but rather distributed across a network of nodes. collect, mirror, post, comment are all part of amplificaton effects which maximise the visibility and reach of contents.
- yes lens is the only truly decentralized network out there
- I am optimistic about the future of lens, including commercial expansion.
- preach it ser, ads are fine as long as is in moderation kek
- Agree. The current ads model on the internet is intrusive, annoying and often misleading.
Who found the new ad model and takes down Google, who owns the future of next 50 years
- Lens is an open protocol, did go job.
- Lens is an open protocol.
- effective ads should be more accurate for targeting audiences and rewarding
- Lens is an open protocol
- Ads is not bad.
- I think wav3s is a good example of how ads can be used correctly.
- if there should be ads fine, but it shouldnt flood the whole space and it should real ads nor click bait with unreal promises
- I think ads are great, as you rightly said, but broken in reach and appropriateness. Despite the long journey of web trackers, ads are mostly untailored and intrusive. Sometimes, the same ad replay countless times
- Definitely agree, ads in themselves aren't bad.
- agree, ads is good
- Agreed. Ads are fine under the right incentives
- 100% agree. ads is neccesory !
- I couldn't agree more. Advertising itself isn't bad.
- Effective advertising should target audiences and rewards more accurately
- I don't mind ads at al
