You can also set slippage so your trade will fail if a bot buys just before you but splitting your order in smaller chunks should avoid the bots and you will get a better price.
That's called a sandwich attack, miners deploy these MEV bots to extract value called MEV - miner extractable value. These attack are common on big trades on main net but I wasn't aware of these happening for $ 400 trades on polygon but because of low fees its possible to go after such trades as well. The solution would be to split up your buys in smaller chunks.
