- Update on Jenya
When I first arrived today Jenya was in a lot of pain. She had a rough night due to the lack of meds given to her in the night. They gave her an additional type of pain reliever after I arrived dilaudid which seems to have helped a lot but it was only temporary relief. Her blood pressure spiked over night so she was given additional medication to help with that as well. So far today it seems under control.
She received dialysis and another blood transfusion this morning. Blood transfusion because of her low hemoglobin (6.3). Her platelets count is up to 132, creatine is down to 4.6, they are going to double check labs again after the transfusion to see how her labs have changed.
They are going to give her a CT scan this evening to investigate her pain in the lower abdomen. As always she’s grateful for everyones support and love. Please continue to think of her and keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
- So sorry to hear this. Sending you all love and wishing Jenya a speedy recovery ❤️

- I’m so happy to announce that Jenya was released from the hospital today, she is finally home where she belongs with her family.
Jenya was diagnosed with a rare but life threatening blood disease called atypical HUS which affected her kidneys and led to kidney failure.
Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a disease that causes abnormal blood clots to form in small blood vessels in the kidneys. These clots can cause serious medical problems if they restrict or block blood flow, including hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and kidney failure.

The team at Stanford did an amazing job of helping Jenya get back on her feet and after diagnosis she was prescribed a special medication called Eculizumab that she will need to take for the unforeseeable future, possibly the rest of her life.

This is still not the end of the road for her, she will need to have dialysis at least three times per week and has been prescribed a bunch of medication to help her with recovery. She is on a bunch of other medications to help with her symptoms.
It’s still unknown if her kidneys will fully recover from this disease. They will watch her lab work weekly and adjust her other medications as needed. So please continue to think of her and our family.
The boys and I are so happy to have her home with us. She is going thru a slew of emotions at the moment but is so thankful to everyone’s support and messages of love she’s received. I will continue to post more updates here as they come.
