When someone says AI will replace programmers anytime soon it’s a great signal they have never worked on an actual production-level codebase. AI is great

I guess with AI the key word there is yet.
probably not all at once ;-) but increasing the productivity is imo the first step. I guess the second step (already starting) is a shift how code will be created from software engineer to prompt engineer.
Here are two repos I've been wanting to try out, just not sure how much I trust AI having unfettered access to my local machine and data. May need to spin up an old MacBook or something, but that's a chore in and of itself. Smol-AI: This is a "junior developer" agent that either: 1. scaffolds an entire codebase out for you once you give it a product spec 2. gives you basic building blocks to have a smol developer inside of your own app. https://github.com/smol-ai/developer Flo: Since flo "lives" in your codebase, it doesn't need you to provide any context. it also doesn't need you to copy + paste a super long error message anywhere, flo catches your errors and parses them on its own! https://github.com/dylanintech/flo
Pretty sure the Autonomous Agents + LangChain + Pinecone + LlamaMaMALamBdALPcca + Perplexity stack already solve this. Saw a thread about it from someone who pivoted from crypto.
Yet 👍
A pleasant opinion.
Agree that it’s true in the current state of AI, although I must admit that code interpreter function of ChatGPT scared me a bit 😅 I think it will be more like a developer supervising an AI and correcting the code when needed, which would make need for less developers. Also you’ll still need devs/POs talking to stakeholders and identifying their needs which requires some empathy.
AI is a tool to enhance productivity.
"Yet" is key man it probably will but as you said not so soon. but i think under a decade even in 5 years we are gonna see new fields in tech industry and despite that i can imagine there will be less need of programmers lets say instead of 5 to 10 backend developer for a semi big project with the help of AI Tools 1 or 2 developers handle all the backend needs and tasks . well i am not an expert programmer by any means i am a junior backend developer and that's just my opinion.
Agreed with you! at the same time, AI will create many jobs, as happened during the emergence of No-Code and Web3. 🛸 Evolution and change I think is a must, otherwise everything will remain boring (maybe 😃)
Too real Not yet
Not replace all of them but it probably can replace many.
👊👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
