Here you consider like this: when comment_post_ratio >= 1 and comment_post_ratio < 10 then 10 when comment_post_ratio >= 10 THEN 5 when comment_post_ratio < 1 and comment_post_ratio >= 0.5 THEN 5 when comment_post_ratio < 0.5 and comment_post_ratio >= 0.1 THEN 1 when comment_post_ratio < 0.1 THEN 0.1. The thresholds on comment_post_ratio I believe you came up with are based on some intuition and may be subject matter expertise but why should the thresholds be 0.1 or 1 or 10? If we consider these as unknown parameters or hyperparameters we can learn them from data instead of us defining it.That’s what any ML algorithm do internally :)
