My experience so far has been that the goals for which I need to be socially pressured weren't goals but just 'nice to have', and they usually don't work out in the long run. Whereas, I needed no motivation to get/achieve the things I cannot live without. So it was less of a question of doing it but instead, whether I really wanted it in the first place.
