I'll be honest, I've lost all enthusiasm when it comes to WEB3. I have stopped seeing a future for these solutions because I don't see how they improve

- I guess the tools are here and infra is improving dramatically. The apps and especially users aren’t (10k ish daily active users) yet and in the end it’s about people. If people would like to support artists they have ways to do it already. Maybe web3 will create apps that make it easier for users to support artists financially but will they? 🤷♀️
- This definitely resonates. Hell, I even expressed frustration to Cristina, this weekend and quite often, about the same things. I’ll put some thoughts down, but you’re not wrong to have those feelings or call these things out b/c they’re relevant.
A bit of history on my journey before I delve into the frustrations.
I’ve been investing in crypto since 2016-17 so the level of ease has increased 1000x but it’s still not great. There weren’t apps or on ramps or L2s or bridging or staking or minting or anything really. Trying to onboard someone then was considerably more difficult. It’s still hard b/c of the learning curve and muscle memory. It’s come a long way…it’s not perfect but it’s ours.
I got involved b/c I thought smart contracts held promise for creators outside of the normal rails that are gate kept at scale. I don’t think I’m (we’re) wrong about the eventuality of this, just the time horizon has to be considered. I hate to say it but…we’re still very early. Like @lens/punkess said, we’re roughly 10k DAU on desoc where as trad social is in the Billlions. This is in its infancy, and to your point, young. But you know as well as I that youth, in its ignorance, makes mistakes but these are important for growth.
The digital native generation is on the way and they want new rails. It’s inevitable. Watch a kid play Roblox or Minecraft and extrapolate.
As any generation wakes up they want something different than before. We just need to be there when they’re ready to walk away from the surveillance state of trad internet rails like social media, banking, shared information, etc ad nauseum
I don’t see this for me, but for my daughter and her generation. The present is fucked but the future could be better.
I’ll consolidate and respond to more specific points but this is my initial reaction. You’re def not wrong to feel this way or have these frustrations. They are valid.
Tagging the good dudes of @lens/deadstartalk since they tagged me about this a bit earlier…dudes, where can I buy a vinyl?!?! I need one in Nashville!
