- I agree with you that sexism is not acceptable anywhere. However saying "*Studies have shown that when men hear sexist jokes, they believe violence is a normal thing"* is an overgeneralization of all men based on the behavior of some. While it is true that exposure to sexist jokes and media can contribute to the normalization of gender-based violence, it is not accurate to say that all men believe violence is a normal thing after hearing a sexist joke.
Again I absolutely agree with your main point, I just want to clarify that women can also hold misogynistic beliefs and perpetrate sexism against other women (slut-shaming etc) and it's not okay to generalize and bash every man out there.
I believe that it's important for everyone to come together to fight against sexism, regardless of the gender being affected. Unfortunately, it seems that there is often less of an outcry when men are the target of sexist jokes or remarks and that might be one reason for the resistance you are experiencing when you talk about sexism online.
- *Apparently, we're on a decentralised social media so we can joke about everything! Because we are in web3 and we can apparently say anything we want! and no one can ever feel shocked or what so ever. Apparently, in web3, the question of the "Ethic" seems to disappear...*
Sexism of any kind, violence of any kind is something that we bring with ourselves as a part of a cultural heritage. This is neither a justification nor a holly truth, it's what I realised about myself when I started travelling: how sexist I was. I realised it precisely there, in the small details. I wouldn't know it because, as you said, it was very natural. I needed many good friends to realise this, and I'm grateful to all of them because they made me a better person (or at least I feel that someone better is in construction).
I think we find the way to manifest this dark side of us no matter where we are, what is our gender, which tool we use, which country we live, which colour is our skin. Sadly, I'm an optimist, and I do believe in humans. I believe that we will evolve our culture and behave better, that we will accept every human for what they are: i.e., another human being. It will take us years, but YEARS to build a society with fully equalitarian values, yet some years ago this was even worse (that's why I'm an optimist)...
In any case, I think it's already a great thing that we can spread the word and talk openly about it (talk, without violence). So, let's keep talking and learning from each other. Let's avoid together that a group of [....] will ruin our web 3.0 experience. They are the minority. You are not alone.
Thanks for sharing,
Big hug!
- I saw the original post. I lost respect for the poster immediately.
For the most part I like crypto and the space, but there is definitely a current running through it that is sexist and just generally arrogant/incel/libertarian that is extremely unfortunate.
I hope you feel the love from the rational people in this space. The hate hurts and his meme/comments were absurd for a litany of reasons, but ultimately he only made a fool of himself, as did anyone attacking you in the comments.
- Do you have link to studies saying that "men hearing sexist joke, tend to normalize violence on women" ?
To me it look a little bit as "War game make people violent IRL" but I'm interested to read solid studies on the subject.
- Thanks for sharing Jessy 🤍I personally really despise when people use jokes as a way to disguise the underlying motif, and then use it against you saying “oh you can’t even take a joke”. It’s quite disappointing to see people using the benefits of denetralized social to their advantage and spreading hate
- It is really sad that this post is not mirrored more. I'm really sorry that you experienced that harassment here. Web3 should be better.
- @gotenks.lens @zkjew.lens.lens i guess this is about well i always believed there no such thing as bad publicity 🤣 kinda sad tho that most of this stuff are just repeated arguments of one side and other sides argument didn't make it to this post to make it a fair one could you @zkjew TLDR some more truth here
- Very true. And the comments to your post underline the importance even more
- Wow this alot of shared information, nice one dear feel like I know you more 🤩
- YES! Experienced this many times myself in Web3. People talk about "not dividing" into groups and it's about a better world for humans, but that assumes that gender equality already exists. To make it better for all humans there has to be progress in reducing systemic misogyny
- That sounds like an envious person using misogyny as a tool to feel better about themselves. You are a great marketer and and a very smart creative. I stand with everything you said. People like you will have to face this type of horrible behaviour often unfortunately. That is why we have to make this place better so that it doesn't happen again. I send you all my support
