Correct, you definitely do need general medical expertise b4 specializing but in the us you need a bachelors and to learn about a lot of other specialties before specializing lol.
But it could be done in the context of your specialty, for instance if you’re learning about A1C levels in the liver you could learn how they often get out of wack in your specialty.
