The decision to go with Connext mostly comes from the days where we at @lens/0xminervawallet were looking into getting our $MIVA Token (Minerva Wallet SuperToken) from GnosisChain to Polygon. Since it was the first pure @lens/superfluid SuperToken ever (a streamable Token that doesn't require wrapping anymore), we had to pick a bridge protocol that would provide a lock+release mechanism instead of a burn+mint mechanism. Because if the token gets minted by the bridge, it wouldn't be a Supertoken anymore - just a standard ERC-20. About 2 years later, with help of @lens/connext and @lens/superfluid, the pure supertoken contract has been updated to also provide xERC20 functionality, which now allows both - mint+burn and lock+release. Testing ground for that was the @lens/fraction_token
