I think using blockchain for elections make sense together with zk-proofs to preserve privacy. Can't believe that we haven't seen many projects focusing on

There were some interesting attempts in the past. Horizon State was an ICO project from Australia back in the day, working on blockchain-enabled, privacy preserving voting. It collapsed eventually - getting flagship pilot projects onboard isn't an easy project. From a government perspective, I can see the risk / reward choice here being difficult when the current system is serviceable.
We need more apps built on top of MACI :)
Hard to believe! Especially knowing real solutions are out there and people still want paper ballots to make a come back. 🤷♂️
Absolutely! Implementing Blockchain based voting will achieve two key benefits: 1. Encourage more and more people to vote and 2. Increase transparency and speed of outcome. However, politicians aren't interested in either of the above, and they'll continue to sow doubts and spray misinformation if Blockchain was implemented in voting. Dominion voting machines in the USA aren't even connected to internet or external network but it didn't stop the republicans to claim so and so country and so and so group hacked the system, switched/deleted votes etc. If the most technologically advanced country fails to implement even basic technology in voting, how will rest of the world react to little understood concept like Blockchain 😔
That would totally be the best solution in an ideal world, but when the government would not feel in control, then they'll be skepticle to adopt it.
