I think the bottleneck might not be technology. Imagine someone starting their music career on Lens and they go viral. Then they get a huge offer from a label that wants them to use their distribution channels (e.g. Spotify). For most artists it would be a no brainer to do so. Plus most normal music consuments don’t know shit about crypto and web3. Why would they leave their beloved music apps that work perfectly and can integrate in their homes and their cars and use a blockchain music app that only offers some indie music? Don’t forget how easy services like Spotify are for artists as well. You can upload songs effortlessly without wallet and passphrase that you shouldn’t lose and with built-in analytics and cover art generation etc. And if Spotify realizes that they’re losing the game, they could just modify their money distribution model and make artists stay.
Build music apps that are not music apps. TikTok is a major music app and they didn’t get there by creating a Spotify clone.
