- Well, I have a few thoughts on this...
As any space matures, we see the market trend go from more general -> more niche. Let's take fashion for example, initially there were online clothes stores, then there were men & women stores, then there were online stores for specific fashion tastes (outdoors, sports, etc) and specific types of clothes (shoes, jackets, hats) then specific types of clothes for specific types of people, now every single brand wants to have their own store and so on.
You can follow this growth pattern through with almost any market, finance, medical, sporting, gambling etc etc
I feel we're just truly reaching this phase in social media, where niche tastes are really beginning to be met.
With this constant rise and fall of platform superiority, one of the pain points is trying to migrate your audience as you move from platform to platform, trying to decide which one suits your particular needs at that given time, and then there is the effort to post content to all of these platforms in a way that best benefits these platforms, a process which is laborious and tedious.
On top of this lies the inertia to change platform as you've spent sooooo long curating the space you're in; this also contributes to the fatigue of new.
Lens provides a solution for this issue, while being a model that lends itself perfectly to the market maturation model I outlined at the top; Lens can develop as the market requires from more general -> more niche and also eliminates the inertia of changing platforms due to the social graph ownership. It also helps to counter the "fatigue of new" as it allows you to try the new platforms risk-free and with minimal onboarding.
Again, not everyone will leave the web² model but that's fine too, after all, some people still prefer to write letters. But to an upcoming generation yet to decide their Social media path, Lens could well become a viable option.
- cross platform posting allowing creators with wider reach! right now, the level of toxicity is almost nil. the noise is less and alpha is great. better privacy as well.
- It's the community 💚🦄
- I don't know what is web2 😅
