Imagine buying a hard drive š¾ š½ in store. What do you look for? Of course you look for read/write speeds šļø of your new disk. So, Throughput for a Layer 2 provides a direct measure of a blockchain's ability to handle compute effectively.

Throughput also reveals how close a chain is to its operational limits. An example from Linea. They observed their highest measured throughput during Linea Park. Their gas target is 10 mgas/s.
We hope you enjoy this new piece of the pie. š„§š No need to focus on Transaction per Second anymore. š https://twitter.com/gakonst/status/1784332678931894598
Who is interested in this? š·š¼āļø Builders: Better estimation for scaleability and expected fees for their users š„ Layer 2 teams: Comparison of their own abilities compared to other chains š¦ Investors: Scaling potential of a Layer 2
Take the example of @base. Base raised their gas targets from 2.5 mgas/s to 3.75 and now at 5 mgas/s, which also had an effect on transaction cost. In this example, Base's median txcosts came down from 30cents to now ~3 cents (all post-EIP4844) š
