Is the Profile and Handle primitive confusing? Curious to hear feedback
Handle = your name on the protocol (can change or swap it)
Profile = your network
Comments
- So
handle = facade, make/up, cover
Profile = what’s inside
Do I get it right?
- I find it confusing, but I probably just don't understand the concept, yet... 🙃
Assuming that my handle is my "@" (@lens/cavernaeremita ) and my profile is my cover name (Eremita - which is defined by a number and a Lenny), and if I wanted to link my "cover name" to a new "@" (just "eremita" for example) how would I do this? Because I have @lens/eremita in another wallet....
- I have to admit that I do get the concept while developing on lens after a while and I still do have to stop and think to explain it to myself again. I think the fact that for years we have associated Profile and Handle as the same thing in web2, it takes time to unlearn. Maybe a visual explainer would help?
- I do find it confusing. I think it would be much easier if your network could be what’s injected into a handle and to multiple handles at once
- I would say it would be better if it came out initially like that, I just think of handles like items for your character. They are not nessarily attached.
- Yeah! Perhaps a visual explainer would make it clear!
- Yes. For me they are the same thing 😅
- Can we have a concrete example with jessyjeanne.lens for example?
- It’s clearer if we have a video that explain this
- I still don’t understand 😭
- I get it, but can't stop thinking about the web2 folk who will have to wrap their heads around it. As you can see, even many crypto natives are having questions.
Some kind of abstraction could make onboarding smoother for first comers, maybe? But that's a thing for apps to implement, I guess. Or, would protocol level support be possible as well?
- Super confusing 😂
- it’s somewhat confusing. but the ones trading on opensea , are they profiles or handles??
- Understood, thanks.
- This is a solid idea 🧠
- What are you doing?LoL, He's out of the game.
