- I understand what you mean with the second part. But sharing yourself is not an obligation; it's a choice, an option. If you make this decision (especially regarding a public selfie, beach photo, etc.), you have to take responsibility because someone might not like it. If you don't have the necessary self-confidence, then don't do it. Of course, the world is very toxic, and the internet is even more so. But you don't have to succumb to societal pressure (especially from Zuckerburg-style social media) if you are not that person. There will always be someone who gets more likes than you, someone who looks better than you, someone whose life you might envy, making you feel that yours is worse, which can be extremely toxic indeed. But I don't think hiding likes will change that.
In addition, I don't feel that this phenomenon affects text/information-based content and conversations in the internet.
