an additional thought: Instagram's Adam Mosseri did an excellent TED Talk last May about creators and empowering them (https://youtu.be/rWTwcySGvrE). imho, he addressed all the right points. I was surprised.
though, if Instagram was really serious and committed to this, they had to change business, their established metrics of what success means probably had to be abandoned.

- I'm a web3 enthusiast who uses IG every single day, and I never once saw anything there about NFTs or digital collectibles. It was never a priority for them, and I'm actually glad they're getting out of NFTs. Meta's business model is antithetical to the idea of permissionless decentralized technologies. They would have found a way to fuck it up if they'd really embraced crypto.
- Reminds me a bit of the old mobile phones. People didnt know they would need it in the future. I think the biggest barrier for people is not understanding the technology and it can be hard to enter the crypto space compared to other social web2 apps.

They saw money moving in NFTs, and they hooped on that trend. They saw hype around metaverse and hopped on that train as well. They are that much clueless about what to do, that they changed their name to Meta.
Facebook is worthless at its core.
