What would be the top priorities you would set for U.S. Policymakers when it comes to common sense crypto policy? Here are mine:
1. Regulate USD-denominat

- Interesting ideas from Ryan, thanks for sharing. I like the idea of regulating without breaking, maybe even the right idea is to use self governed soft law
- Totally agree
- Crypto may have to go through the stage what I call "semi-decentralization" which means government regulations and intervention. The final goal should be minimal government involvement and full autonomy.
- My only addition: introduce a safe harbor for protocols that are sufficiently decentralized (and lay out guidelines for what "sufficiently decentralized" means).
A protocol that is immutable (with no upgrade keys) literally cannot be regulated, and thus shouldn't be regulated.
- basically, you nailed it. a problem - but also an opportunity - is the extent of the regulation.
from a European perspective, the situation in the US looks complicated. there seem to be too many agencies that (want to) have a say in regulation but have different views.
also some people like Gensler enjoy the spotlight, musing in interviews and speeches while they should push their agency to work on a plan that's documenting regulation in written text (if the agency is actually responsible for it).
it's hilarious that state officials (e.g. NY/Kraken) can have so much influence that they basically regulate things on a federal level. imagine every state had a different view on the matter and Kraken was crazy enough to geoblock its services accordingly. since they aren't, the NY rule applies for the entire country.
but admittedly, I don't know much about the state/federal framework of the US
- While y'all talk about what they should do, I'll be the reverse guy. What we shouldn't ever let them do - creation of a CBDC. Which is their next step. Giving them some of this power can lead to a destruction of the core of wha I believe most of us believe in. Should def transfer some power, but need to be smart which power we want to ultimately transfer. we as if i have much saying lol. but as a community, ykwim
- Spot on. Privacy and self-custody rights are of the outmost importance. If we don’t have those, the rest doesn’t matter.
- Well said, @twobitidiot.lens!
International alignment to an extend will help with consistency and lack of confusion for projects.
That said, I’m more eager to make sure the US doesn’t drop the ball first and foremost.
Hester has provided interesting perspective along the way like with her post in GitHub. I would love to see you and her discussing this topic in more detail.

- Briliant idea to share
