I have just created LIP-10 proposing a unified standard for creating and managing Communities which allows using them in an interoperable manner across the

- It's exciting to see this proposal come to light!
We had been planning to propose something very similar after finalizing a few pending items, so it's encouraging to see the community taking initiative early on. At orb, our goal from the outset has been to integrate our clubs/communities with Lens. At the moment there seems to be a clear need for such integration as evidenced by the consideration of similar implementations by other apps however we challenge other apps to do their own thing and not just copy-pasta.
In reviewing the current proposal, several essential functionalities need to be addressed for its success. We intend to elaborate on these in our forthcoming contribution to the PR. Specifically, we believe the proposal should incorporate:
* The concept of owners, admins and moderators.
* Ensuring that relevant community details are recorded onchain.
* Mechanisms for hiding spam posts, as spam is already a significant issue in orb clubs.
* Detailed thoughts on joining and owning a community.
* Balancing privacy with application performance to ensure a seamless user experience.
Why we haven’t done this earlier is related on the recent challenges faced by other ecosystems which highlight the importance of agile development and proactive problem-solving. In order the communities to work, it is crucial to address problems promptly and efficiently, rather than merely relying on basic features. We’re starting to see that our thinking has matured enough to get this PR live.
We look forward to contributing to the PR and addressing these key functionalities in detail.
- Couldn’t you wait for Monday? 😇😇
- This was needed!
- yes, this should be a protocol feature, to many implementations for the same feature isn’t a good idea specially for scalability
- Absolutely necessary!
- I am a huge fan of the idea behind this LIP, and appreciate bringing the conversation to the community in a more accessible way
A standard for Communities/Clubs/content feeds will help deliver on part of the original vision for Lens where users can take not just their profiles but their content and communities with them from app to app
As we know, many of the same people interact with each other on different apps. In a sense, the members of a community are like a group of friends out on the town and the apps are different “night clubs” we can hang out and have fun in - together
Moreover, a standard for communities means value can accrue to different content feeds as sources and signals for distribution and discovery of group members and the content they create
The @club/artistsbyrefraction community is a great example of this - artists create from the convenience of mobile on @lens/orbapp and collectors collect on @lens/hey on web. The feed is shared across the apps- but this requires coordination btw the apps to do this as sone-off instance. A unified standard would make this use case prosper and benefit creators, curators, collectors, and the apps they use as well
- 👋 Like it.
- its needed~!
