maybe i have a trust issue ;-) but if I were google I think I had issues with shifting my revenue model from my own infrastructure to an open protocol developed and - short to midterm - mainly maintained and organised by people on my main competitor’s payroll. That’s more of a gut feeling than properly thought through and without taking reference to history (open source projects developed by a company) though. Very exciting times :-).
