So... whats the best proof that universal basic income could work?
Comments
- Work in what way? I believe that with the inevitable arrival of CBDCs around the world, the concept of universal basic income is more viable in its implementation, mainly in countries where most people do not have access to the banking system. This can lift people out of misery and hunger, and that's great and important, but in fact it doesn't change the most serious problem that is social inequality... in fact that sounds to me more like a voucher than an income.
- Covid in the USA. People whose jobs were shuttered received a dramatic boost in unemployment because of the inability of the IRS to calculate what you people actually earned. But the benefit was huge. Savings went up, debt went down, in the midst of all that chaos and pain it financially helped a lot of people.
I don’t know if that’s a defense of Basic Income or just paying people a living wage.
- Oh I could spend so much time on this topic. But I am thinking of it maybe like more as a stipend. So the basics of food and housing are taken care of and then you get a UBI on top. Alternately I like the negative taxation model - you know it @stani.lens ?
- i would say even just the anecdotal evidence. all you need to do is consider the difference between people whose life goes off the rails but have family support vs people who don't and the probability someone will overcome and go on to thrive.
- In a randomised control trial in Finland (a country with an already better than average welfare system) there was a statistically significant improvement in key drivers of well-being. What more do you want?

- Folks at @worldcoin.lens most likely have a theory about it.
- IMO in most European countries we do have universal basic income already though social security but accessing it requires a humilitating and bureaucratic process (at least in my country). that it generally works is clear when you look at all the happiness rankings. All that is needed would be to get rid of bureaucracy and humiliation and the savings would IMO far outweighs the additional costs of more people accessing it.
- that there is no proof that universal basic income could **NOT** work...
- i think there is no proof that universal basic income could **n**ot work
- The best proof that universal basic income (UBI) could work comes from several real-life experiments and trials that have been conducted in different parts of the world.
- While there is no one definitive proof that universal basic income will work, there are several arguments in favor of it. universal basic income could provide increased financial stability, consumer spending, simplified administration, support for innovation and entrepreneurship, and improved gender equality
- You must provide value to extract value. The abuse of this principle has gotten us here. There is abundance everywhere if we can change our mindset to a collabatition model where we can collaborate and compete at the same time and everyone benefits.
- It won't work because us humans are an ambitious species. We did experiment with a lite version of universal basic income in socialism, which had failed. Also, if everyone can afford basic necessities, the prices of those basic necessities will skyrocket until they are no longer affordable with an universal basic income
- Look at Turkey, it does not work if you only depend on universal basic income...
- The Universal Basic Income is the best solution to handle the large scale displacement of labour due to automation in the coming years.
- Universal Basic Income (UBI) could be designed to reduce poverty, improve income security and boost well-being, but could be expensive and challenging to introduce. Many of its goals could be achieved through changes to the existing social security system and addressing the underlying causes of insecurity in the labour and housing markets.
- I don't know if this is relevant, but it reminds me of Kleoverse, which is a Web3 Talent Platform. For example, if you are good at Solidty, you can get proof of this ability! If this continues to improve, it might be possible to make the universal basic income could work!
- There are several examples of universal basic income (UBI) experiments around the world that have shown promising results. For instance, in Finland, a two-year UBI pilot program was conducted on 2,000 unemployed citizens, and it was found that the recipients of the stipend reported higher levels of well-being and lower stress compared to those in the control group. Similarly, in Canada, a similar pilot program was conducted in the town of Ontario, and the results showed that the program was successful in reducing poverty and unemployment. Overall, while more research is still needed, these experiments provide some evidence that UBI could work in practice.
- check Argentina and then you will get what would happen to the world if universal basic income is applied.
- UBI - no proof as of yet, as I'm aware. However I am interested in the iteration of UBI in the coming years. It's kinda necessary if bulk jobs are about to be axed by automation. Much to the proud individualist's dismay.
I'm also curious about the concept of Universal Basic Equity. Could be a promising avenue
- i dont know
- income could
- @stany.lens ,Mirroring posts in @orb.lens and @butterfly.lens have not been working for me for several days. Very sad, I wrote about it, but no one responds. I believe that this can be fixed and the team will deal with it. @phaver.lens alone works flawlessly, keep it up💪
- income
- it is the best proof?
- something for nothing never works
free shit line full
produce actaul good services line empty
= inflation and no goods services
- Proof of human uselessness... but humans are not pets, this is why we should reform education and jobs to fit with that incoming "brave new world"
- under government control, so no proof at all
- Just anecdotal, but I personally received a relatively small amount of unemployment during the pandemic after getting laid off. It only amounted to about nullk per month after the added $600 ended.
Having that cushion let me take a step back and really dive into crypto and other things I was intrinsically motivated to do.
That lead me to landing a job in crypto and having my first “real” job in a long time (I was working as a bartender before). I’ve seriously leveled up since the start of COVID. I’m an entirely new person.
Without that cushion I probably never could have made this transition.
I’ve also been a proponent of UBI for a long time and written about it on Quora, so I’ve thought about this a lot and had this answer preloaded!
- Is there any proof for human ambitious?
- it is the best solution to handle the large scale displacement of labour due to automation in the coming years.
- The greatest harm of welfare policy lies not in the burden it places on taxpayers or in the bureaucratic and corrupt opportunities it creates, but in the disincentives it creates that harm beneficiaries.|
Between 1968 and 1980, large-scale experiments were conducted in the United States with over ten thousand families. During the three- to five-year experimental period, husbands' work hours decreased by 7%, wives' by 20%, and unmarried young men's by 43% compared with the control group. These reductions were unrelated to education. At the same time, divorce rates increased by 36-84%. (For more information, see Chapter 11 of Charles Murray's book Losing Ground).
- I believe that not exist proof of that... you have some idea about?
- it is the best proof
- mmm.. has any nation with a non capitalism model succeeded?
- I don't know because I have no income
- Remember human wants is insatiable, if UBI should be initiated the price of commodity will skyrocket leaving some category of people not to be able to afford what they could before ☺️
- i would say even just the anecdotal evidence. all you need to do is consider the difference between people whose life goes off the rails but have family support vs people who don't and the probability someone will overcome and go on to thrive.
- How do you think about worldcoin’s solution, Stani?
- there is no proof that this would work. Perhaps it only exist in the days where human still living in cave & hunt like animal
- Not sure how it could be viable, but definitely would be incredible for mankind
- I think the stimulus checks at the beginning of the pandemic were a good ‘mini experiment’ for ubi
- on paper it works but it will lead to a bunch of sad directionless people
- No successful examples...
- No successful examples
- does not exist, the only thing that can free it is the market.
- Isn't there a small middle eastern country that pretty much gives oil dividends to it's citizens? I hear they're thriving.
- No proof
