… soon permissionless lens ✨
what do you think will be different?

- Well damn, step away for a bit and things get interesting! I actually don’t think it will be that dramatic of a change. Web3 social is still searching for a bit of a value prop imo. Unless ofc you’re like many of us who just prefer this niche, the **majority** of people don’t yet care enough about the future/potential benefits to take the leap.
My prediction: Permissionless will have a short term bump that will wreck norms for a few weeks, but will then return to a slow growth in a few months. Biggest benefit will be the ease to onboard friends (especially if there’s a way to “gift” paid accounts to email addresses).
- I love the idea of quests! That’s where my mind head has generally been when it comes to onboarding people. Generally I’m excited, but there is so much still for me to learn and build tho👀✨

To be honest, I don't think many things will change. Of course, it depends on how Lens becomes public (I've read many thoughts here about setting a price for profiles and/or handles).
At the moment, only Phaver is doing marketing and has a long waitlist for Lens handle claims. Other apps are not doing marketing. @lens/kaira will start to do so soon with the V2 launch, regardless of whether Lens is public or not. Maybe Orb will do the same with Orb V2.
So, if Lens and its apps start marketing, we can bring new friends here. But to do that, we don't need to become permissionless. Lens is already allocating apps with invite rights, and the secondary market for Lens profiles on OpenSea is so cheap.
Lens should be permissionless, but I don't think this is the issue we should focus on right now.
