Post by @stani • Hey
Whats the right amount to set a collect fee? doing some research while on-boarding a creator fren. What do you feel is good to set as your first collect fe

- Depends.
Start can be low, but that might also set up a precedent where collectors constantly demand low prices.
Start can be high, but that can limit or even leave pieces uncollected for a while or forever.
For me personally, I think it is best to experiment and use setting price as a medium itself.
Like recently I published the post with the most expensive post published ever on Lens protocol which is unlikely to be collected that soon, however it delivers the message and statement that I intended to send: https://lenster.xyz/posts/0xee76-0x0275
Same for the other end of spectrum, where very often I publish affordable pieces that get fair amount of collects.
Experimental mindset over a fixated one seems to be the way at least for me.
- It depends if it's just daily shitposting or some major event, artwork, song etc.
What I like the most that it's creators who decides 🙂
- 0.000006 is what I always do lol
- Too many are expecting too much for too little now. If I could run it back I’d probably not have done so many so low for my higher quality work.
- 1 matic maybe. Not intend to do so much
- Less than null would be a good start.
- probably I would optimise for (quality) reach especially in the beginning and start with a free collect for followers.
I like the approach of @ryanfox.lens , @grams.lens and @chaoticmonk.lens and probably many more to build the foundation today and grow (financially) with #lens mid and long term. I haven’t seen an artist/creator - besides @pussyriotxyz.lens - who was able to benefit from collects substantially yet (and I doubt this will change soon - but I’m very optimistic mid to long term of course :-)).
Having said that I think limited editions are the way to go, as soon as the posts reach the targeted audience.
Collect fee? I like experiments ;-) - unfortunately the secondary market is not a thing yet - maybe it makes sense to have not so limited editions, and optimise for mid term here as well 🤷♀️. Anyways we haven’t seen real demand for >> 1 WMATIC collect fee imo. At least not if there is no utility coming with the collect.
- I'm doing a series for free but requires following to collect - as someone new I think this is a good mutually beneficial approach.
- Cannot stress this enough:
Creation, Creators, How to Create, Pricing for Creators, etc are all solved problems.
The success of Lens depends on the existence of apps which make use of what we’ve collected. Without them Lens is Facebook + Patreon. We need apps which actually use the posts (data) we’re collecting along with all other NFTs. This is the vastly bigger side of the Creator/Collector equation.
Apps which use NFTs as data incentivize people to collect and create that data.
The lowest-hanging fruit possible for devs right now is a gallery feed/collections app where only NFTs are allowed to be posted and organized into collections.
-Music players are a good start and thus music NFT pricing is doing well relative to other forms of media.
-Music remixers using collected music is better.
-TikTok-style creation tools which use your collected music is even better.
Attached is a mock-up of a viral song in TikTok + Sound.xyz. The biggest thing Sound/Foundation/SuperRare all get right is at a minimum collectors want to see their names displayed prominently. This is painfully absent here.
Photography is “underpriced” right now bc there’s no way to use the photos. @arterlioz.lens is absolutely on the money with Wallpaper which could easily become a Lens app:
Wallpaper.app
-Curated feeds of high quality NFT photos formatted as wallpaper (this does not have to be decentralized!)
-slideshow/gallery presentation
-downloadable hi-res jpegs
-Artist + Collector(s) name displayed prominently
-collector community channels
-collectors have access to artists
-collectors can comment publicly on the photo
Until apps like this are built with collectors in mind we’re just posting art and adding patreon on top, in which case to your original question… a creator’s work should be priced relative to the size of their network here on Lens. Small following? Cheap price. Work to make your early collectors rich.
All of the creator tools here are absolutely incredible and awesome and we honestly can’t thank the builders here enough for it all. I’m not trying to sound negative, these are truly game-changing tools. But only if the stuff for collectors gets built.
Building for collectors will give Lens (and all of web3) the highest ROI.
- have no idea why have to set the collect fee?
- I believe that the fee should be ranked by the quality of the content. Sometimes the content is so stupid that you don't even want to collect it, and sometimes the content is so useful that you want to pay a good amount by doing collect. It would also be interesting to donate through collect to really worthwhile things: for example, as it was recently - to victims of an earthquake or fundraising for a technically important project.
- Why a collect fee is necessary? People should reserve the right to set it free. I prefer ZERO because I think 80% of my content is nonsense.
- I think this comes down to market dynamics.
It's important to consider your audience and what they're willing to pay for your content. In general, doing some research and seeing what other creators are charging for similar projects might be the easiest way to gauge what the collect fee should be. This can give creators a good idea of what the market is willing to bear.
Another key factor is the value that the content provides to your audience. You can charge a higher fee if you're offering something unique or highly valuable that people can't easily find elsewhere. On the other hand, if your content is more general or widely available, you may need to charge less to remain competitive.
Ultimately, it's all about finding the right balance between what your audience is willing to pay and the value that your content provides. As for setting your first collect fee, it's usually best to start with a moderate fee and adjust it over time based on feedback from your audience.
- The collect fee is always depended by content itself, but I think it will be a good idea to share collect fees for the collectors
So sooner you collect more you will be rewarded
- The first collect fee is better no more than null
I think lowering a certain threshold to attract more attention is necessary
- It's important to research what other creators in the same niche are charging for similar content and use that as a benchmark. However, it's important to note that setting the collect fee too high could potentially deter potential fans and limit the creator's reach.
- Just an unpopular on this app (like web2) but at least ppl like me irl….so, I’d say fee should be n/a cause what are you really collecting?
- Should not set too high a fee, this is just my personal opinion
- It would be cool if creators could set custom collect fees by the edition number.
eg. Collect #69 or #420 or #1337 would probably be more valuable than any old collect.
Also think you could give creators the chance to offer a sliding scale.
eg. Collect #1-10 is 10x more expensive than collect #11-100 which is 10x more expensive than collects #101-10,000.
- let the issuer decide the collect fee
- I think that near 1 USD is the right fee
- Depends on content
First collect may be 1$ is good
- 3-5 daily collects = normal fee
More than that = normal fee * 10
- I’m really struggling with this. I don’t want to setup fees so more people could interact and I would grow the audience. And setup collect feea later on the road. But on the other side not much people are doing collecting action. Most of the interactions are likes. Sometimes mirror, and collect almost never.
I think the main problem with my account is lack of the interested people for what I’m doing. 🫤
- 10 Bucks at first and then increases based on the number of collectors
- Charge the lowest fee
- Lowest fee
- I think $0.5-null is a good choice, but still need to know what ur fren's collect quality.
If quality is high, above $10 is acceptable for most of users
- The fee must be low enough to be indifferent to users
- Maybe first time should be free? then 2-5% just fair
- I think at this moment <10 matic is a fair fee
- Equal with Polygon fee with normal collection.
Bigger with Exclusive collect
- Depending on how much time the creator has devoted to the work, or can look at the price he sells his work offline before, 1/10 or 1/30 of the offline price might be a good start
- Don't have an idea about the right amount, but I think it should be float and depend on some parameters
- null is a good amount
- I think the right amount could be 2$ maybe
- The threshold should be low, the cost should be low enough, good creative content
- First time it should be free .👀
- Set a price at which you can sell
- I think the right amount could be 5$ maybe
- Between 0.25 and 1 seems fair to me.
- less than 1$ is great.Free is best.ahhh
- I think more than $0.1 sill be good.if you like it,you will pay it
- Collected for free
- Depends if they forsee any utility to it I guess? Maybe if it's really good artwork it can increase I guess. Otherwise should be cheap
- I guess something that when reaching 100 or 1K is not a lot but still something?
Couple cents probably. Unless it's a special post
- I propose to remove the payment for the collect , is not it beautiful?
- good amount
- 0.1 dollars
- It should more than a dollar
