- Because it is easier to ignore than to think
- I think this is because the vast majority of people don't take the time to educate themselves on anything, and instead run off pure emotions, which causes nothing but problems in modern society.
It's probably like that because when we were still wild animals the "truth" didn't matter. All that did matter was that you and your community (tribe) were safe. So humans wouldn't have had an issue lying to other nearby settlements and even to people within their own community. It was just another way to keep you and your family safe in an environment that's trying to kill you constantly. What was true or false just doesn't matter to a wild animal trying to survive.
But we've evolved to the point where we now have the ability to ask ourselves "why am I here?" And the convenience and safety of modern society allows us to explore that question without any worries, but we're still just animals who evolved in the wild, an environment where what was true or false just didnt matter, and so the majority of people still make emotional decisions instead of rational decisions based on reasoning and self education simply just because of the environment we evolved in over millions of years. I mean, it was only like 300 - 400 years ago that we had the "age of enlightenment", a movement of people advocating for the use of science and reason to guide our way to understanding ourselves and the universe, and alot of people actually argued against it lol
Those last few hundred years of advocating for rational decision-making is nothing compared to millions of years of evolution baked into our core. We're still just at the beginning of becoming a rational decision-making species, imo.
