I mean this in the absolute nicest way possible, it's sincerely not a dig against you in the slightest: I think you're overthinking it.

- Would also like to say that there is nothing cooler than founding a coffee club. Nothing more respectable tbh.
- I completely agree with these points, and I think with some more clarification on how something like this would work we could come to a consensus on how this could work. I completely agree that in this set up, the seed like profile and seedling like profile should be built above the base layer. And, I agree that the base layer should be open for anyone to access and post to without the oversight of a governing party. However, I disagree with the notion that it should be at no cost. When looking at successful blockchains it is clear that those with valuable block space are far more superior than those with cheap block space. If you take the example of Ethereum vs. your favorite alt L1 it becomes apparent base layers which have abundant, undesired block space are not really used. So, I think it is important that there is the option for people to opt-in to any type of profile, I think the base layer should have some associated expense to keep it desirable and pay for the block space it consumes. Imagine you're a Chinese citizen for a moment - you have an oppress censoring government that essentially controls you. Now, for the price of 5 + 2x MATIC you can rent complete freedom from the Chinese government with no repercussions. For the price of 50 MATIC, you can have permanent freedom from the CCP and have all your information carved into history. You could for lack of a better example pee on Xi Jinping's grave all day every day indefinitely with no consequences. There should also be some sort of proof of humanity way to get a base-layer profile without the large cost.
This is sort of my response to this quote:
"Having judges determine who gets to write to the database at the base layer is a bad idea not just because it goes against the ethos of the blockchain but because it's just a format. It's copyable. Phaver could read/write data in the Lens format without using the Lens API. It could even connect to a private database and use the Lens format."
I agree with this completely, which is why I think each type of profile should be opt-in able at any time for any person.
The main reason I continue to advocate for some sort of payment to the protocol is that polygon block space is not free and it shouldn't be expected to have gasless transactions without some sort of reoccurring revenue for the protocol.
Thoughts?
