- Death Note is really good, as is Attack on Titan.
Besides those, I would say the best anime so far is Akira. Not only does it cover topics like cultural trauma, dystopia, and scientific ethics, it also has some of the most timeless animations in the genre.
Most of these are adapted from some kind of manga, which deserves an entirely different discussion.
