I think music NFTs are very similar (in their purchase motivation) to vinyl. I’m a big vinyl collector and I do it to 1) support the artists I love, and 2) to have a physical collectible. With music NFTs you get the collectible and you can directly support the artist, but the additional layer of entering yourself into a circle of superfans that receive ongoing benefits/proximity to artists is where it creates even greater value. We just need more seamless integrations of NFTs into music consumption. IMO, every vinyl/CD/cassette sold should have an accompanying NFT.
Also gives more freedom to musicians artistically! We don’t have to fit into a mold to get listens on radio/streaming playlists. Maybe the freeing of genres will produce new sounds and in turn build new audiences!
I definitely find myself thriving in The New. Discovering an audience of listeners is extremely motivating to keep producing in this space. I don’t have much stake anywhere else atm, and I’m loving the outcome of dropping music on Lens. 💚🌿✨
The future: not just music: this is cc-commons, do whatever you want with it. Web3 is just the tech enabling it all so that anyone gets monetized, at any platform. No intermédiaires, no leechers. Platforms only get fees if they provide value and any other platform can outcompete - bcs no proprietary lockdowns
