This place has good bones (https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/89897/good-bones). But boy, it sure can be terrible. The tough part about this moment is that we constantly vacillate between being one community and many communities. People easily get swayed by "look - numbers go up" mania. But like with any healthy community, there are acceptable behaviors and there are taboos. It's up to all of us to call out the toxic bs, build forward, and create an environment that our kids will be proud of one day.
I agree with a lot of their thinking, but I think this is also how humanity operates. Our community is just way smaller so it's way more in our face. I think about this a lot and just keep pushing forward because I believe in the vision of web3 and putting ownership in the hands of users. Try not to get distracted by all the noise.
Indeed, they lost their morals, but before the crypto/web3 world, this space was merely an opportunity to cultivate that lack of morality. I'm not pessimistic because I can see degens turning into regens every day. At the end of the day, the real economy is a chain of trust. Those who broke it in the past have no place in the plans of the future.
